Australia is quiet on AI - at least in annual reports

UK and US listed company annual reports mention AI far more than those of ASX listed companies.

Among the US-listed and UK-listed companies we examined, 86% and 71% respectively mention AI or machine learning in their FY2025 annual reports. Among ASX-listed companies, that figure is 50%.

The fine print: Prevalence captures whether an annual report mentions AI, not whether the organisation has deployed it, governs it, or has changed how it works. A company can clear this bar with a single forward-looking sentence. Whether this gap in mentions reflects differences in actual adoption, or simply talk, is a question we'll come to later.
